This grueling out-and-back or loop tour is recommended only for highly-conditioned, experienced road cyclists accustomed to biking in remote areas. There is only one small market in Pope Valley in the first 65 miles of the loop, and concessions at Lake Berryessa have limited hours. Be prepared to carry necessary provisions, including a water filter. The Berryessa Knoxville road in the Knoxville Wildlife area is in very rough shape. Road bikes cannot travel this section though gravel and mountain bikes can. The road condition degrades south of the northern Knoxville OHV entrance and north of Lake Berryessa.
