ABOUT

Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest is a nearly 3,500-acre forest located in southern Lake County, California. Acquired by CAL FIRE in 1949 after extensive timber harvesting, the forest serves as a site for demonstrating sustainable forest management practices and research. It features gently rolling terrain flanked by two mountain peaks and a geologically complex landscape with volcanic rock formations. The forest supports a variety of vegetation, including manzanita at lower elevations and mixed conifer forests of Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and hardwoods like oak and madrone at higher elevations.

In 2015, the Valley Fire devastated Boggs Mountain. Subsequent reforestation, led by the Friends of Boggs Mounts, involved planting over 700,000 tree seedlings. The area is now popular with mountain bikers, equestrians, and hikers with 15 miles of lush, forested single track multi-use flow trails, and several more miles of logging roads.
