APRIL 22, 8AM — the City of Clearlake is celebrating Earth Day by holding its annual citywide cleanup event, with check-in starting at 8AM at Austin Park. All bags and tools will be provided along with a safety vest. If you are a business owner, you can help by cleaning around your business, flower beds and parking lots. To sign up, call 994-8201 Ext. 111. The cleanup event will be followed by an Earth Day celebration at Austin Park from noon to 3PM — free, everyone invited.
APRIL 23 — Mendocino Group hike on the Glen Eden Trail. For Earth Day a great springtime hike will take us up the east side of Cow Mountain, ascending to the ridgeline and down the other side to Goat Rock where we will have lunch. We should have wildflowers to enjoy and great views of Clear Lake and surrounding mountains to the north and east. Bring water, lunch, sturdy hiking boots, raingear, and suggested long pants due to possible poison oak. Carpools: Meet 9 am Raley’s parking lot in Ukiah or 9:45 am trailhead. From Lake County take Hwy 20 west and turn left on Scotts Valley Road just east of Blue Lakes, then go 3 miles to parking area on left. By reservation only. MAY 7 — Lake Group hike to the top of Mt St Helena in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. Hike is on a trail with switchbacks for about 20 minutes through fir woods then up to a dirt road leading to the mountain top. On a clear day see spectacular views, including much of the San Francisco Bay area. View mountain ranges in a 360 degree panorama including Mt. Shasta! Bring water, lunch, binoculars & snacks.
